Taking special care of those who care for others

At Harveys our customers are at the heart of everything we do.

We really value the close relationships we’ve built up with so many of them over the years and when the opportunity arises, we’re always keen to find out more about them.

We’ve been supplying uniforms to Marjara Care Group for over 13 years so you could say we know them pretty well!

Offering residential, nursing and specialist dementia care across four homes in north Lincolnshire and Sheffield, Marjara Care Group is a family run organisation established in 1990.

It’s now home to 148 residents and employs almost 180 staff so as you can imagine, ensuring their uniform needs are met is a tall order!

That task falls to director Sam Marjara who joined his family’s passion for high quality care home provision in 2007.

From the get-go uniforms were a pivotal part of the vision Sam had for Marjara Care Group.

We spoke to him to find out more and how his Harveys Workwear experience has been so far…

“When I joined the business in 2007, I was keen for us to get in line with other professional healthcare organisations by introducing a uniform colour system which signified staff positions,” said Sam.

“This was for both professional aesthetic reasons and to help others identify staff member roles from domestic staff to senior carers and management.

“I’m a great believer in a uniform empowering people. It helps people to be proud and to feel a real part of where they work and that’s very important in a care home setting.”

“Our relationship with Harveys goes back as far as I can remember, and it’s always been a very good one. I tend to deal with Janet and she’s always efficient, understanding and helpful.

“The turnaround time is very quick which is really appreciated when you have so many staff and they always prioritise when you need something in a hurry.

“We mainly purchase healthcare tunics and use the embroidery service.

“Harvey’s will also happily embroidery a garment which isn’t purchased from them which many of the other uniform suppliers won’t do. I like a specific rollneck from an online fashion retailer which I send to Harveys to be embroidered with my name, title and company logo. I wear this for external meetings and the embroidery is so much more professional than wearing a badge.

“When we opened our newest care home, Pingley Court in Sheffield, Harveys sent us uniforms in a range of sizes for our staff to try on.  We keep these on a rail for when new staff join as you never know when it comes to sizing. Some people like to go up a size so they can have a bit more room to move, others like them more fitted.

“It saves us so much time and trouble now and has been an absolute saving grace for us.

“It’s this kind of service which makes Harveys stand apart and again something other suppliers wouldn’t do.

“Harveys goes the extra mile, and we wouldn’t go anywhere else.”

As a long standing and trusted supplier to the health and social care sector we’ve been prouder than ever to support customers like Marjara Care Group in whatever way we can in recent times.

As restrictions on care homes eased on 17th May we asked Sam to share some of his insights from the last few months.

“It’s great for our residents to be able to see more friends and family again and it’s great to have them back,” he said.

“We’ve obviously got to do things in a controlled manner as we still have people to protect but we can see the steps to trying to get that normality back and they are the right things to do because we can’t deny the residents their contact anymore. It’s a very, very important part of their care that they have access to their families.

“It’s been very important to keep up staff moral through the pandemic because there’s no denying they’ve been affected.

“They’ve all be so resilient throughout and understanding of government changes – fast moving at times – and of what we require them to do to keep people safe.

“Our managers have been unbelievable. They’re the ones more than anybody that have kept people safe, kept people coming in to work right the way through and sacrificed their own family time – all to keep residents safe.”

“I can honestly say, hand on heart, the staff having been amazing. I wouldn’t be able to do it without them.”

There’s no doubt our health and social care sector teams have impressively risen to the challenges they’ve faced throughout the pandemic and continue to do an amazing job, caring for those who need them most.
